Hey there, folks! Have you heard about the recent developments in the battle against odour pollution in Maharashtra? The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has cited a 2008 report by a CPCB-constituted expert committee, recommending steps to mitigate odour pollution. However, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) pointed out that these recommendations were only adopted as guidelines, without any specific rules and regulations.
But fear not, because the NGT is on it! They have issued recommendations to the Taloja MIDC to install necessary systems within six months and aerators and screening mechanisms within 18 months. They’ve also directed the MPCB to tackle the issue of waste at the CIDCO dumping ground with Mumbai Waste Management Ltd. and CIDCO.
In the meantime, the CPCB has been tasked with framing rules and conducting research within a year to ensure the proper implementation of these recommendations. The 2008 guidelines on odour pollution highlight the importance of addressing this issue, as odour can have negative effects on air quality and even lead to health problems like nausea and headaches.
So, let’s all do our part to combat odour pollution and keep our air clean and fresh! Stay tuned for more updates on this important issue.
