Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Pune regarding tree preservation and environmental protection. An NGT-appointed committee recently found that the PMC lacked proper scientific methods to assess tree age, as required by the Tree Preservation Act. To make matters worse, 96 trees were incorrectly marked for removal.
But don’t worry, the PMC owned up to their mistake after the inspection and the NGT gave them a stern warning about facing punitive action if they mess up again. The tribunal ordered the PMC to cancel the removal of 61 trees and come up with a proposal for the remaining 18 trees, all following the guidelines of the Tree Preservation Act.
Thanks to some vigilant activists, most of the trees near the bridge have been saved from the chopping block. Amit Singh, one of the activists, stressed the importance of considering tree preservation and environmental protection in any development plans.
A shoutout to senior citizen Nandinidevi Pant for her hard work in counting and documenting the marked trees. The NGT, under the leadership of Chairman Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh and Expert Member Dr. Vijay Kulkarni, recognized her efforts in ensuring the preservation of these trees.
This ruling by the NGT sets a great example for environmental conservation and responsible development in Pune. It’s a win for all those who care about our green spaces and want to see development done in a way that’s scientifically justified and minimally impactful. Kudos to everyone involved in making this happen!
