The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken a serious stance on potential violations of environmental laws in Pune. The principal bench of the NGT has registered a Suo Motu case after a news report raised concerns about violations of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.

The tribunal, led by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi, and expert member A Senthil Vel, has directed the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), the principal conservator of forests, and the District Magistrate of Pune to submit their responses by October 4. This gives them one week before the next hearing to address the issues raised.

The case has now been transferred to the Western Zonal bench for further proceedings, indicating that the NGT is taking these potential violations seriously. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
