If you’ve been stuck in traffic on the Katraj-Kondhwa road in Pune, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s some progress being made to ease the congestion. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to extend the length of the flyover while widening the road, which should help speed up your commute.

But before they can start construction, they need to acquire land between Wonder City and Rajas Society. To make this happen, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Standing Committee has approved a fund of Rs 9.57 crore for cash compensation to the landowners.

The project, which began in 2017, has faced several hurdles, including communication issues with landowners and rising land acquisition costs. The initial estimated cost of Rs 750 crore has now ballooned to Rs 1,100 crore, with only 30% of the work completed so far. An additional Rs 883 crore will be needed for land acquisition to finish the project.

To help with the costs, the Maharashtra State Government has provided Rs 139.83 crore to PMC for land acquisition, with a request for another Rs 425 crore. The flyover construction is already underway, and it’s been decided to increase its length on Katraj-Kondhwa Road.

In a recent video conference meeting, Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari assured PMC that if they provide the land, NHAI will cover the costs of building the flyover. PMC has already started the process of acquiring the necessary land by assessing seven landowners for 2,705 square meters.

Once the land is acquired, compensation will be calculated after deducting stamp duty, registration fees, and TDS. The proposal to pay Rs 9.57 crore in compensation was accepted by PMC Administrator and Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale in the Standing Committee meeting.

So, while there may be some delays and challenges ahead, it looks like there’s light at the end of the tunnel for commuters on the Katraj-Kondhwa road. Stay tuned for more updates on this ongoing project.
