Hey there, folks in Solapur! If you’ve been stuck in traffic on the Solapur-Pune National Highway lately, you’re not alone. The highway has been getting busier and busier over the years, with daily traffic reaching a whopping 42,000 vehicles by the end of 2024. That’s a big jump from the 30,000 vehicles it used to see back when it was first completed between 2010 and 2014.
But with more vehicles on the road, unfortunately, comes more accidents. In fact, on average, two people lose their lives in road accidents every day in Solapur district. That’s a sobering statistic that has prompted the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to take action.
NHAI has plans to expand the highway to six lanes if daily traffic hits 60,000 vehicles. This expansion could help ease the congestion, but in the meantime, they’re focusing on safety measures. Construction of new flyovers at accident-prone locations is underway, with a completed flyover near Indira Kanya Prashala in Mohol city already making a difference.
More flyovers are in the works, including ones near Angar Pati and Sawaleshwar. These projects come with a hefty price tag, with estimates ranging from ₹19 crore to ₹45 crore. But NHAI is committed to improving road safety for villagers in the district, with the support of the District Collector and Project Director Rakesh Jawade.
So, while the six-lane expansion of the highway may take some time, improvements are on the horizon. Stay safe out there on the roads, Solapur!
