Hey Pune peeps! The residents of NIBM Annexe are taking a stand against the destruction of forest land in their area. The NIBM Annexe Forum, led by Director Jaymala Dhankikar, recently met with forest department officials to discuss the environmental degradation plaguing their community.

During the meeting, residents proposed various measures to prevent further damage, including the implementation of Continuous Contour Trenching on NIBM Hill and the construction of a retaining wall on a collapsing section of the hill near Dorabjee Heritage Mall. Dhankikar expressed frustration with the lack of action from civic authorities, highlighting issues such as flooding and unstable hills.

Daljeet Goraya, another director of the forum, emphasized the urgent need to address environmental concerns caused by rapid urbanization. The forum received a positive response from the forest department and plans to work closely with them to mitigate the effects of climate change.

This isn’t the first time Dhankikar has taken action. She previously reached out to the Ministry of Environment and Forests for an environmental impact assessment and evaluation of the damage to the NIBM reserve forest area. It’s clear that the residents of NIBM Annexe are serious about protecting their environment and ensuring a sustainable future for their community.
