As the festive season approaches, the dangers of using nylon kite strings in Pune have once again come to light. Over the past two weeks, two individuals in the Swargate and Shivane areas have been injured by these hazardous strings. Despite being banned, illegal sales of nylon strings are still rampant in the city.
With Makar Sankranti just around the corner, many people, especially children, are getting ready to fly kites. However, the use of nylon strings coated with glass or metal poses a serious threat to not only humans but also birds, animals, and the environment. These strings are known to cause injuries and fatalities, as well as damage to electrical infrastructure.
In an effort to crack down on the illegal sale of nylon strings, Pune Police have increased their vigilance. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Nikhil Pingle, has warned that strict action will be taken against those found selling these dangerous strings. He also urged citizens to avoid using them to prevent any mishaps.
As Maharashtra gears up to celebrate Makar Sankranti on 14th January, it is important for everyone to be aware of the risks associated with using nylon kite strings. While the festival is a time for joy and celebration, it is crucial to prioritize safety and adhere to the laws in place to protect both people and the environment. Let’s all make sure to enjoy the festivities responsibly and keep our city safe.
