Hey there, Pune folks! It seems like the city is facing a bit of a challenge when it comes to controlling crime. With criminals on the rise, the police are finding it tough to keep things under control. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) tried to help out by installing over 2,900 CCTV cameras in public places around the city. However, it looks like there’s a bit of a hiccup – 1,054 of these cameras are currently out of order. Yikes!

It all started when there was a bomb blast in Pune, making it clear that the city was a potential target for terrorists. This led to efforts to increase CCTV coverage, with PMC taking the lead in installing these cameras. The cameras have actually been pretty effective in helping to solve crimes and could be super useful in case of accidents too. But with over 1,000 cameras not working, it seems like the criminals are having a field day.

The Electrical Department of PMC has been hard at work installing these cameras, but it looks like they’ve hit a bit of a snag. With only 1,855 cameras currently operational, there are still over 1,000 cameras that are just sitting there, not doing much. Incidents like gang attacks, murders, fights, and burglaries, as well as concerns about women’s safety, really highlight the importance of having these cameras working properly.

Manisha Shekatkar, Superintending Engineer at the Electricity Department, PMC, mentioned that once PMC installs a CCTV camera, it’s up to the local police to take over control. So far, they’ve installed almost 3,000 cameras, but a good chunk of them are currently out of commission. Let’s hope they can get them up and running soon so that the city can feel a bit safer. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story!
