Hey Pune peeps, get ready to lace up your running shoes because the ‘Apla Pune Marathon Season-4’ is just around the corner! With over 10,000 runners signed up, this event is set to be one for the books.
Organized by the Punit Balan Group (PBG) and co-hosted by various authorities including the Pune Police and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, this marathon is not just about running—it’s about promoting fitness and a drug-free lifestyle among Pune’s youth.
The theme of this year’s marathon is “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Run,” aiming to inspire young people to embrace a healthy lifestyle and combat drug addiction through sports and fitness. Scheduled for October 20, 2024, at the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, runners can choose from four categories: full marathon, half marathon, 10k run, and a fun 5k run.
Participants can pick up their bibs on October 19 at an expo at the sports complex, where various activities and programs will be available for runners and their families. On race day, hydration stations, medical teams, and dedicated volunteers will ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all runners.
In addition to the main races, a 5k social run in collaboration with the Loha Foundation and the Rotary Club will raise awareness about social service and contribute to charitable causes. IPS officer Krishna Prakash, known for his fitness and law enforcement dedication, will serve as the Honorary Race Director, motivating participants to challenge themselves and pursue healthier lifestyles.
With a lucrative prize pool of Rs 18 lakh and recognition from the Athletics Federation of India, the Apla Pune Marathon is expected to attract top-tier athletes. This year, 125 previous winners will be celebrated for their achievements, serving as role models for the Pune running community.
