The first day of Shravan, a holy month in the Hindu calendar, was celebrated with great fervor today. This year, Shravan Somwar, or Mondays in the month of Shravan, are of particular importance as it is the first one in 71 years. This auspicious day saw thousands of devotees making their way to the Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple, a popular pilgrimage spot located around 110 km from Pune.

Despite the heavy rainfall that has been lashing Pune District in recent days, devotees were undeterred in their quest for darshan at the Bhimashankar Temple. The heavy rains have caused flooding in the area, leading to the submergence of several temples dedicated to Lord Shankara, including the renowned Shree Omkareshwar Temple in Pune. However, this did not dampen the spirits of the devotees, with over 2,00,000 of them managing to have darshan at Bhimashankar today.

The heavy rains have also added to the natural beauty of the Bhimashankar region, attracting tourists who stopped at various scenic spots like Dimbhe Dam and Ganesh Ghat to take in the stunning landscape. To manage the influx of visitors, the administration set up five parking lots, but due to the large crowd, many vehicles had to be parked near the fourth and fifth stops. To make transportation easier for devotees, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation provided 8 minibuses and 22 large buses.

Overall, the first day of Shravan was a day of devotion, despite the challenges posed by the weather. The spirit of the devotees remained strong, and they were able to experience the blessings of Lord Shankara at the Bhimashankar Temple.
