Hey Pune peeps, listen up! The State Transport Department has given you a little more time to get those fancy High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on your vehicles if they were registered before 2019. Now, instead of the original deadline of 31st March, you have until 30th April to get it done. But don’t drag your feet too much, because the Regional Transport Office (RTO) will come knocking if you don’t comply.
The reason for the extension? Well, turns out there are a whopping 25 lakh vehicles in the Pune RTO jurisdiction alone that need the upgrade. That’s a whole lot of cars, bikes, and tractors that need new plates! So, a designated company has been tasked with getting these HSRP plates on all these vehicles.
But here’s the kicker – despite all the warnings and appeals from the RTO, only a measly 10,000 vehicles have actually gotten the new plates so far. Come on, Pune, we can do better than that!
After 30th April, if your vehicle still doesn’t have the snazzy HSRP plate, you’ll be facing some penalties. And just so you know, the installation costs vary – it’s ₹450 + GST for two-wheelers and tractors, ₹500 + GST for three-wheelers, and ₹745 + GST for four-wheelers and other vehicles.
To get the ball rolling, head over to transport.maharashtra.gov.in to register online and pick a fitment center near you. On the appointed day, show up at the center where a certified vendor will hook you up with the new HSRP plate and give you the stamp of approval.
Why all this fuss, you ask? Well, these HSRP plates are no joke. They make it easy to verify your vehicle, reduce the chances of theft, prevent fraud, and even have a fancy laser-engraved code for tracking. Plus, there’s a non-removable snap lock for that extra layer of security.
So, let’s get cracking, Pune! Don’t wait until the last minute to avoid those penalties and stay on the right side of the law.
