Hey there, Pune folks! It seems like the Maharashtra Assembly Elections in your city weren’t as clean as we’d hope. Over 600 fake votes were discovered in eight urban constituencies, with Vadgaonsheri leading the pack with a whopping 162 fake votes. Kothrud wasn’t far behind with 93 fake votes of its own.

The District Election Administration has noticed a rise in such incidents, especially since the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. It’s not a good look for Pune, that’s for sure.

Fake voting is when someone casts a vote in someone else’s name before the real voter shows up. The good news is that the real voter can still vote by filing Form 17B and casting a tender vote, which doesn’t count unless the election is super close.

On top of the fake votes, there were also 300 rejected postal ballots during the counting process. Vadgaonsheri once again took the lead with 65 rejected ballots, followed closely by Hadapsar with 56 and Khadakwasla with 53.

Despite these issues, the election results weren’t affected too much due to the wide margins of victory. But the fact that fake voting is on the rise is definitely a cause for concern.

Let’s hope that steps are taken to ensure the integrity of future elections in Pune and beyond. Stay informed, stay vigilant, and let’s work towards a fair and transparent electoral process.
