Pune, 25th September 2024: The tragic case of 26-year-old chartered accountant Anna Sebastian Perayil, who passed away while working for EY’s member firm S.R. Batliboi and Co, has taken a new turn as her parents express their heartbreak and frustration over EY’s lack of action and communication following their daughter’s death.
In an exclusive interview with Punekar News Consulting Editor Tikam Shekhawat, Anna’s parents shared their disappointment, stating that despite filing a complaint, no inquiry or meaningful response has been initiated by EY. They criticized the company’s HR department for failing to explain or provide clarity on benefits such as Provident Fund (PF) and insurance benefits to the family.
The lack of empathy and transparency displayed by EY’s management and HR department in handling Anna’s case has sparked a larger conversation about the indifferent approach adopted by corporates in such situations. Industry employees are calling for greater accountability and empathy from HR leaders when dealing with the families of deceased employees.
EY has yet to communicate any details regarding the full and final settlement, leaving the family disturbed by the company’s lack of engagement. This incident highlights the importance of sensitive and empathetic HR leaders who handle such cases with compassion, rather than simply going through formalities via email.
The family, along with many others, are eagerly awaiting a proper response from EY to address their concerns.
