Are you tired of endlessly circling the streets of Pune in search of a parking spot? Well, you’re not alone. The much-anticipated pay-and-park project on designated roads in Pune has hit a major roadblock.

Despite the designated roads including Namdar Gopalkrishna Gokhale Road, North Main Road (Lane 5, 6, 7), Aundh DP Road, Balewadi High Street, and Vimannagar, the project has failed to take off. What went wrong, you ask?

Well, it seems like a committee formed under the then Mayor to oversee the project dropped the ball. They didn’t even manage to hold a single meeting, leaving the project in limbo. And to make matters worse, officials’ lack of response and convenient excuses like the 2019 assembly elections and the COVID-19 pandemic further delayed progress.

The lack of action by the local body prompted the Urban Development Department to step in and inquire about the status. In response, the PMC wrote to the Principal Secretary on July 15, citing the need for government approval as per the parking policy.

Local residents are understandably frustrated with the parking chaos that has ensued. They are urging the authorities to revive the pay-and-park plan and provide relief to drivers. The PMC needs to prioritize the project, tackle bureaucratic hurdles, and implement the pay-and-park system to ease parking issues.

The delay has raised serious doubts about the PMC’s dedication to solving the city’s parking problems. Will they finally take action and bring some relief to drivers, or will the suffering continue? Only time will tell.
