Pune was abuzz with frustrated travelers on Wednesday as over 150 passengers on SpiceJet’s SG-184 flight from Goa faced a nightmare of an eight-hour delay. The airline blamed the delay on scheduled aircraft maintenance, claiming that passengers were given prior notice. However, many flyers found themselves in a bind, having to check out of their hotels to avoid incurring additional charges.
“We had no choice but to leave our hotel to avoid paying for an extra day,” one passenger shared. Originally set to depart from Manohar International Airport in Goa at 2 PM, the flight was rescheduled multiple times, leaving travelers stranded. “I got a message in the morning saying the flight was pushed to 7:30 PM. I arrived at the airport by 6 PM, only to face further delays before finally taking off at 11 PM,” recounted another passenger.
Another traveler, preferring to remain anonymous, revealed the dilemma they faced. “I had to check out of my hotel at noon, and I had planned my flight accordingly. After the rescheduling, I contacted the hotel and was informed of additional charges if I stayed past check-out time. It was a significant amount, so we had no option but to leave.” The inconvenience of scheduled delays was a common complaint among passengers.
While SpiceJet is yet to provide an official response, an insider hinted that a second message was sent to passengers, informing them of a further delay to 8 PM. The ordeal left many passengers questioning the airline’s handling of the situation and the impact on their travel plans.
