The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) recently took action against unauthorized constructions along the Wakad Datta Mandir Road. Over the course of three days, a total of 137 commercial sheds and 18 houses were demolished to make way for a road widening project.

Residents in the area were given a two-month notice prior to the demolition drive, with announcements made through loudspeakers to ensure everyone was aware of the impending action. Despite multiple warnings and notices issued since August 2024, many property owners did not comply with the orders to remove illegal structures.

The operation, carried out under the supervision of the “D” Regional Office of PCMC, utilized heavy machinery including JCBs, Poclain machines, and breaker machines to clear approximately 62,000 square meters of encroached land. City Engineer Makarand Nikam confirmed that the demolition was carried out smoothly with the assistance of a heavy police presence.

The road widening project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the Wakad area and improve overall connectivity for residents. Stay tuned for more updates on the development projects in Pimpri-Chinchwad!
