With Diwali fast approaching, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is taking proactive steps to ensure a safe and secure festive season for all residents. In a recent announcement, PCMC officials have laid out a series of mandatory safety guidelines for vendors selling firecrackers in the area.
One of the key guidelines is the requirement for vendors to maintain sand near their stalls to help manage potential fires. This simple yet effective measure can greatly reduce the risk of accidents during the busy festival season. Additionally, smoking near stalls has been strictly prohibited to further minimize fire hazards.
To crack down on unauthorized vendors, PCMC officials have warned that any vendor caught operating without a valid permit will face immediate action from the encroachment department of the respective Ward Office. This action could potentially result in fines and legal consequences for the vendor in question.
In a bid to streamline the process and ensure that only authorized vendors are operating, the Fire Brigade and Ward Offices have approved permits for 60 vendors this year, each at the required fee. This move is particularly important in busy areas where fire risks are higher.
A recent case in Mamurdi, where a vendor was found operating illegally, serves as a stark reminder of the importance of following the rules. Authorities at the Dehu Road Police Station seized firecrackers worth Rs 79,166 from the vendor, Mahesh Prem Paraks Agarwal, underscoring their commitment to public safety.
PCMC’s approach this Diwali highlights its dedication to ensuring secure celebrations for all. By urging both vendors and residents to adhere to the guidelines, PCMC hopes to reduce the hazards associated with firecracker sales. Through regulated operations and strict safety measures, PCMC is working towards a safe and incident-free Diwali season in Pimpri Chinchwad.
