Hey there, Pimpri folks! Big news coming your way – the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have joined forces to tackle weather changes and disaster management in your area.
So, what’s the deal? Well, they’ve signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to exchange crucial information about weather patterns, pollution control, early warnings for natural disasters, and strategies for disaster management. Sounds pretty important, right?
But that’s not all – there’s talk of setting up an X-Band Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) tower on Durga Devi Tekdi in Nigdi. This tower will keep a close eye on weather changes and help predict extreme conditions. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh and IMD Chief Scientist KS Hosalikar even went to check out the site where the tower will be built. Talk about taking weather monitoring seriously!
And who else was there? Additional Municipal Commissioner Chandrakant Indalkar, Chief Security Officer Uday Jarande, Chief Disaster Management Officer Omprakash Bahiwal, and a whole bunch of other important people. The PCMC has generously provided the land for the IMD to set up the DWR tower – team effort, right?
Shekhar Singh emphasized the importance of being prepared for climate change and its consequences. With weather patterns getting more unpredictable, it’s crucial to have systems in place to handle disasters. The MoU between PCMC and IMD is a step in the right direction for sustainable development in Pimpri.
And what does KS Hosalikar have to say? Well, the X-Band Doppler Weather Radar is a state-of-the-art system that will cover a 100-km radius, including Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding areas. This will help monitor extreme weather events like heavy rainfall, storms, and hailstorms in real-time. The IMD will share this valuable data with the PCMC to keep everyone informed.
Exciting times ahead for Pimpri with this new collaboration between PCMC and IMD. Stay tuned for more updates on how this partnership will benefit the city in the long run. Keep an eye on the skies, folks!
