Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Pune today, as the Petrol Dealers Association has announced a major protest set to start on 15th October 2024. This protest involves a total halt in the dispatch of fuel tankers due to unresolved issues with oil companies. Here’s a breakdown of what’s been going on:

1. Unfair Tender Practices: The association is claiming that oil companies have been pressuring dealers into signing blank agreements with unviable rates. This has led to transporters accepting low rates and some getting involved in fuel thefts.

2. Unreasonable Rate Bands: Oil companies are setting rate bands without consulting stakeholders, which is putting public safety at risk during petroleum transportation.

3. Neglect of Theft Concerns: Despite repeated requests from the association, concerns about fuel thefts have been ignored. Over 10 theft cases have been reported in the past two years, with the most recent incident prompting police intervention.

4. System Failures in E-Locking and Vehicle Tracking: Despite investments in theft-proof systems, thefts continue to occur due to negligence by company officers responsible for monitoring these systems.

5. Lack of Officer Accountability: Company officers allegedly involved in aiding and abetting thefts remain unpunished, compromising the safety of transporting explosive substances.

Dhruv Ruparel, President of the Petrol Dealers Association Pune, stressed the urgency of these issues and demanded immediate action from oil companies.

The association’s demands include the cancellation of current tenders and the suspension and investigation of complicit officers. They have already informed relevant authorities about the planned agitation and have made it clear that it will be the responsibility of oil companies to ensure timely fuel delivery to avoid public inconvenience.
