Prime Minister Narendra Modi made headlines on Sunday as he inaugurated and dedicated several significant projects in Maharashtra, totaling approximately Rs 11,200 crore, through video conferencing. This move comes at a crucial time as the state gears up for upcoming elections.
One of the key projects inaugurated was the completion of Phase-1 of the Pune Metro Rail Project. The Prime Minister marked the occasion by inaugurating the Pune Metro section from District Court to Swargate, with an underground section costing around Rs 1,810 crore. Additionally, Modi laid the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj extension of Pune Metro Phase-1, which will cost approximately Rs 2,955 crore and span 5.46 km.
Another noteworthy project is the Bidkin Industrial Area, covering 7,855 acres under the National Industrial Corridor Development Program. With an estimated cost of over Rs 6,400 crore, this project aims to create a vibrant economic hub in the Marathwada region. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the revamped Solapur Airport, which can now accommodate around 4.1 lakh passengers annually, enhancing connectivity for travelers.
In addition to these infrastructure projects, the foundation stone was laid for a memorial honoring Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule’s First Girls’ School at Bhidewada. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of modernization while maintaining India’s fundamental values, stating, “India should be modern, India should be modernised, but it should be based on our fundamental values.”
During his address, Modi criticized past governments for their lack of planning and vision for urban development. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and economic development in Maharashtra, setting a transformative agenda as the state approaches its elections.
