Hey Pune peeps, some exciting news coming your way! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to allocate 20 plots of land in villages within its limits for the construction of water tanks. Yup, you heard it right – water tanks! These tanks will be able to store a whopping 3.5 lakh litres of water once they’re completed, which will definitely help with the water supply issues in the surrounding areas.

Now, you might be wondering how many villages are actually part of the PMC limits. Well, currently there are 32 villages, with 11 being included in 2017 and 23 more joining in 2021. However, the Maharashtra State Government has decided to exclude two villages – Phursungi and Uruli Devachi. But hey, that still leaves us with a good number of villages benefiting from this water tank construction plan.

Water is currently being supplied to these villages through various sources and tankers, but PMC wants to make sure they get a consistent water supply just like other areas within the corporation. That’s why they’re working on a water supply scheme in villages like Wagholi, Lohgaon, Sus, Mhalunge, and Bavdhan.

The Water Supply Department requested land from PMC to build these water tanks, and after a meeting, it was decided to allocate land in eight villages for this purpose. These villages include Ambegaon Khurd, Ambegaon Budruk, Sus, Mhalunge, Bavdhan, Jambhulwadi, Lohgaon, and Wagholi. Once the land is transferred, construction will begin.

Nandkishore Jagtap, head of the Water Supply Department, mentioned that PMC has plans to ensure adequate water supply to these villages. They’re already working on some water supply schemes, and building water tanks with a capacity to store one-third of the total water supply is key. So, providing these 20 plots for tank construction is definitely a step in the right direction for better water supply in these villages.

Exciting times ahead for Pune, folks! Stay tuned for more updates on this water tank construction project.
