In a bid to combat urban air pollution, the Pune Municipal Corporation recently organized a workshop with the World Resources Institute India to address air quality issues in the city. The event, held last Thursday, brought together developers and engineers from government offices in the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority area.

Key figures in attendance included PMC Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP, Environment Department Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Shinde, and Environment Conservation Officer Mangesh Dighe. Also present were Credai Pune President Ranjit Naiknavare, PCMC Additional City Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni, and WRI India Director Kumar Kumaraswamy.

The workshop was part of the National Clean Air Programme, a government initiative to tackle air pollution in urban areas. PMC has already received ₹162 crore in funding for air quality projects, with an additional ₹139 crore to be released in the next two years.

During the workshop, Prithviraj BP stressed the importance of developer engagement in pollution control efforts, while Kumaraswamy emphasized the need for regulatory compliance with guidelines from the CPCB and MPCB. The event underscored the significance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to improve air quality in Pune.
