Hey there Pune residents, it’s time to talk about waste management in our city! Did you know that the garbage collection and treatment projects in Pune have been causing some delays lately? Well, it seems like the contractors hired by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have been starting their waste treatment projects a bit late in the morning, around 8 AM. This delay has been leading to long queues of vehicles waiting to transport waste outside the projects, causing a bit of a headache for everyone involved.

Pune generates a whopping 2,200 tonnes of waste daily, which is sorted into dry and wet waste for processing. Household waste is collected by SWaCH Pune, while garbage collectors take their waste to ramps where PMC’s garbage trucks pick it up and transport it to disposal plants. The waste management system usually kicks off early in the morning before the hustle and bustle of the day begins, but the contractor projects have been starting later than ideal.

Despite complaints from PMC employees and instructions from the Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Department, contractors have been dragging their feet on starting projects earlier. A recent meeting with contractors at Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P.’s office addressed this issue, stressing the importance of starting projects at 7 AM sharp. The meeting also touched on the problem of everyone taking lunch breaks at the same time, causing more delays in the afternoon. To tackle this, it was instructed that projects should continue running during lunchtime with a rotation of staff to keep things moving smoothly.

So, let’s hope that with this new directive in place, we’ll see a more efficient waste management process in Pune. Let’s keep our city clean and green, folks!
