Hey there, Pune peeps! It seems like there’s a bit of a shake-up happening over at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Thousands of young folks are trying to snag jobs there, but only a lucky few are actually making the cut. And get this – a bunch of those who do get hired end up jumping ship for better gigs elsewhere!

In the past year alone, a whopping 71 PMC employees have said “see ya later” and handed in their resignations. On top of that, 13 others have decided to kick back and enjoy some well-deserved retirement. Reasons for leaving range from changes in work conditions to good old-fashioned work stress.

One of the reasons for all these vacancies is a ten-year hiring freeze that was finally lifted by the State Government in 2022. Since then, the PMC has been scrambling to fill positions left and right. Last year, they managed to hire 448 new employees, including 135 Junior Engineers. But even with all that hiring, they still had to go back to the drawing board for another 320 positions.

Currently, plans are in the works to recruit 100 Junior Engineers (Civil), seven Deputy Works Officers, and a handful of other key positions. But hold your horses – the whole process has hit a snag because they’re waiting on the government to give the green light on including Maratha reservation in the recruitment.

As the PMC struggles to keep up with the constant turnover, they’re also facing challenges in keeping the recruitment process fair and square. And to add insult to injury, some of the folks who do stick around end up leaving after just a year, not giving a chance for candidates on the waiting list to step in.

It’s a tough situation all around, with experienced officers citing stress and health issues as the main reasons for calling it quits. But hey, at least they’re landing on their feet with gigs at construction companies and private firms.

So there you have it – the inside scoop on what’s happening at the PMC. Stay tuned for more updates on this ongoing saga!
