The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking a proactive step to combat dust pollution in the city by deploying three “fogger” trucks that were purchased under the National Clean Air Program (NCAP) three years ago. These trucks will help address the increasing dust levels caused by construction and vehicular activities.

Key Routes Identified:

– Katraj-Kondhwa Road
– IT Park Road in Kharadi
– Handewadi to Phursungi Garbage Depot stretch

These routes have been identified as major dust-prone areas due to ongoing infrastructure projects like metro construction, flyovers, and roadworks. The fogger trucks are equipped with 7,000-liter water tanks and 16 spray nozzles to effectively suppress dust along these routes.

The trucks will cover approximately 40 kilometers daily on the identified routes, helping to improve air quality and reduce pollution. The deployment of these trucks, at a cost of ₹1.02 crore, is expected to last for two years and will cover maintenance and operational expenses.

The initiative is aimed at creating a cleaner and healthier urban environment for residents, as dust pollution not only affects respiratory health but also contributes to poor visibility and environmental degradation. The PMC plans to monitor the effectiveness of the fogger trucks and may expand the initiative to other dust-prone areas in the city in the future.
