Are you a bird lover who enjoys feeding pigeons in public spaces? Well, you might want to think twice before doing so in Pune. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is cracking down on the practice due to health risks associated with pigeon droppings and feather dust.
Despite previous warnings from the PMC, residents are still feeding grains to birds in open areas, which can lead to respiratory diseases like hypersensitive pneumonia, asthma, and fungal infections. Doctors are concerned about the impact of inhaling these particles, which can cause lung failure in extreme cases.
In response, the PMC’s Health Department is installing awareness boards throughout the city, urging residents to stop feeding birds in public spaces. The corporation is also warning of penalties for those caught dumping grains on roads.
The Road Department had even set up designated bird-feeding zones in areas like Bibvewadi’s Dolphin Chowk, but this has only worsened the pigeon-related issues in the area. Now, the PMC is focusing on educating the public about the dangers of feeding birds and promising stricter enforcement of regulations.
So, if you’re a resident in Pune, it’s time to take responsibility and help prevent these health risks by refraining from feeding pigeons in public areas. Let’s work together to keep our city healthy and safe for everyone.
