Hey there Pune residents! Big news coming your way from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). If you own property in Pune, listen up because there are some changes happening with property tax discounts.

So, here’s the deal – PMC is bringing back a 40% discount on property tax for those of you living on your own properties. Sounds great, right? Well, not exactly. Residents are finding that their property tax bills are actually higher than expected. Yikes!

To get to the bottom of this, PMC is going all out and conducting a massive survey of all properties under its jurisdiction. By 15th August, they plan to visit over 3 lakh properties and residents will need to fill out a PT-3 form. So, get ready to open your doors and cooperate during this process.

Now, let’s rewind a bit. Back in 1970, residents with a single property under PMC got a sweet 40% discount on property tax. But in 2018, the Maharashtra State Government said nope, everyone needs to pay 100% tax. And if you owned two properties under PMC, sorry, your discount got axed too.

Then, in 2019, properties newly registered were hit with 100% property tax, including those in newly added villages under PMC. This caused a lot of uproar and complaints from residents. In response, the Maharashtra State Government brought back the 40% discount scheme. But it wasn’t smooth sailing, and many residents missed out on the discount.

To fix this mess, PMC is now going door-to-door to survey properties that missed out on the discount. They tested this out in the Sinhagad Road area and eligible properties got their 40% discount. And they’re planning to do this citywide.

To get your discount, you’ll need to show some documents like proof of residence (think gas connection, Aadhaar card, voter ID, passport, etc.). Make sure to have these handy when PMC officials come knocking or head over to the Citizen Facilitation Centres.

Madhav Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner of PMC’s Taxation and Tax Collection Department, said they’re on a mission to find properties that didn’t get the discount. The list of affected citizens will be on PMC’s website. The survey started on June 18th and will run until August 15th. They’re aiming to visit every household and help them fill out the PT-3 form.

In summary, a lot of properties in Pune were hit with changes in 2018 and 2019, affecting nearly half a million properties. While some have applied for the discount, many haven’t. So, PMC is hitting the streets to reach these residents.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
