The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally taken action against Acropolis Purple Builder in Mohammadwadi by imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 for discharging sewage onto the roads in the NIBM Annexe area. This move comes after years of complaints by local residents about overflowing drains, waterlogging, and garbage-filled streets.
In response to the long-standing issues, the PMC’s health department has launched a deep-cleaning drive in the area, focusing on clearing drainage and sewage lines that have been neglected for years. While residents are relieved that action is finally being taken, many remain cautious about the long-term impact of these efforts.
Danish Khan, a resident of Imperial Society, expressed mixed emotions about the development, highlighting the need for accountability from the authorities. Despite years of complaints and frustration from residents, little response had been seen from the PMC until now.
Civic rights activist Jaymala Dhankikar strongly criticized the PMC for its negligence, calling for anti-corruption agencies to investigate and hold responsible parties accountable. Residents are now demanding stricter measures, including the registration of criminal cases against PMC officials for negligence and dereliction of duty.
As the health department’s clean-up drive gains momentum, residents are hopeful that this marks a turning point in improving living conditions in the area. However, they are remaining vigilant and determined to ensure that authorities deliver sustainable solutions to the area’s persistent problems.
