Warje, 1st August 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a strong stance against substandard road construction in Warje by imposing a hefty fine of ₹1 lakh on a contractor. The contractor, who was working on a water supply project, made a critical error by filling a pit with cement concrete that had a high water content, leading to poor construction at Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk.
This oversight was brought to light by Sakal, sparking public outrage and criticism on social media directed towards both the PMC and the contractor. In response, the PMC has ordered the contractor to demolish the faulty road and rebuild it to meet the necessary standards. The demolition process has already commenced, with reconstruction set to begin on Thursday.
To make matters worse for the contractor, they have also been slapped with a ₹1 lakh fine for damaging the reputation of the municipal corporation with their shoddy work. Nandkishore Jagtap, Head of Water Supply, expressed the PMC’s stance on the issue, stating, “The L&T company, responsible for the water supply work, has been fined ₹1 lakh. They have been directed to redo the work on this road as per proper procedures.”
It is clear that the PMC is committed to upholding quality standards in construction projects and will not tolerate any compromises in the execution of public works. The contractor now faces the daunting task of rectifying their mistake and restoring the trust of both the PMC and the residents of Warje.
