Hey Pune folks, some important news coming your way! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is gearing up to clean all Elevated Storage Reservoirs (ESRs) and Ground Storage Reservoirs (GSRs) in response to the rising number of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in the city.
Approximately 350 water tanks that supply water to different parts of Pune will undergo a thorough cleaning operation, expected to be completed within a month. Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP mentioned that there might be temporary disruptions in water supply in certain areas during the cleaning process.
The decision to clean the reservoirs comes after bacteria associated with GBS were found in water samples from various hotspots in Pune, although the exact source is still unknown. PMC Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale has issued orders for this comprehensive cleaning operation to prevent further spread of GBS.
Authorities have been instructed to minimize disruption to daily activities during the cleaning process, focusing only on specific areas served by the tank being cleaned at any given time. The operation will also include inspecting the surrounding areas of the tanks, underground sewage systems, and wastewater pipelines.
Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP assured that the cleaning will not significantly disrupt the daily water supply to citizens. This proactive approach aims to ensure the safety of Pune’s water supply and potentially reduce the spread of GBS in the city. Stay tuned for more updates on this important development!
