Hey Pune peeps, here’s some news you might want to pay attention to! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been on a roll lately, taking action to improve road safety in our city. They’ve removed over 250 speed breakers that were not up to Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards out of a total of 600. That’s a pretty big chunk!

Sahebrao Dandge, a PMC road department official, spilled the beans on this initiative. He mentioned that they’re working closely with ward offices to make sure all the removed speed breakers are replaced with new ones that meet the required standards. Good to know they’re on top of things!

According to the IRC guidelines, speed humps should not exceed 10 cm in height to prevent damage to vehicles. Plus, urban areas should have a speed limit of 30 km/h. A recent survey by PMC found that many speed bumps were not following these rules, which was causing safety issues. Yikes!

PMC officials revealed that there are about 3,500 speed humps on over 2,000 km of roads under their control. Back in 2016, they formed a committee to make sure all these speed breakers were up to scratch. After receiving complaints, they conducted a survey last month to identify the problematic humps that were causing trouble on the roads.

Looks like PMC is making moves to keep us safe on the roads. Let’s hope this initiative leads to smoother and safer journeys for all of us in Pune!
