As President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Pune approaches, the city is facing a major issue with numerous potholes still present on Ganeshkhind road. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken matters into their own hands and started filling these potholes as the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been slow in their road repair work due to ongoing metro and flyover construction in the area.

The rainy season has only worsened the situation, leading to more traffic congestion and increased risks for drivers. Despite a joint meeting between PMC, PMRDA, and Traffic Police, the condition of Ganeshkhind road has not improved significantly.

In response to the neglect from PMRDA, the PMC has taken the initiative to repair the road ahead of President Murmu’s visit on 3rd September. The PMC plans to recover the costs of this repair work from PMRDA once completed.

The PMC’s Hot Mix Plant in Yerawada has been facing challenges due to closure during the rainy season, affecting the availability of gravel-mixed asphalt needed to fill the potholes. To address this issue, the PMC will now source Hot Mix from private projects to ensure the timely completion of the road repair work.

Since 26th August, the PMC has already filled 432 potholes in 1,981 sq m using 1,334 tons of Asphalt. The efforts to improve the condition of Ganeshkhind road are ongoing to ensure a smoother and safer experience for residents and visitors alike.
