When it comes to keeping our cities clean and beautiful, Pune is taking things to the next level. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recently given the green light for a ₹2 crore project to beautify four of the city’s lakes—Katraj, Pashan, Peshwa, and Model Colony.
Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, funds have been allocated for the beautification of these lakes, with a focus on improving the surroundings to make them more attractive to citizens. The project will include planting trees, constructing concrete roads, ensuring proper garbage disposal, developing jogging tracks, and cracking down on littering.
Each lake will receive a specific amount of funding, with Pashan and Katraj Lakes receiving ₹41.88 lakh each, Model Colony Lake receiving ₹49.42 lakh, and Peshwa Lake receiving ₹49 lakh. The goal of this project is to increase water retention capacity and address environmental concerns around the lakes.
In addition to beautification efforts, PMC will also work on cleaning up the lakes as untreated drainage water continues to pollute them. Measures have been taken in the past to prevent polluted water from entering Katraj Lake, and a new sewage treatment plant is currently being developed.
Overall, PMC officials believe that this initiative will not only make Pune more beautiful but also help reduce pollution and improve air quality. With projects like these, Pune is truly setting the standard for environmental conservation and urban beautification.
