Hey there, Pune folks! It looks like the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is stepping up its game to tackle the recent rise in Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in Dhayari and nearby areas. The PMC has proposed setting up a swanky new water treatment plant in the Sinhagad Road region at a cost of a whopping ₹250 crore.

Currently, the area is getting untreated water from the Khadakwasla dam through community wells, which experts believe is a major contributor to the outbreak of GBS cases. With 230 cases and 12 fatalities reported in Pune, the need for improved water quality standards is more pressing than ever.

Residents in affected areas like Dhayari, Khadakwasla, Kirkatwadi, Nandoshi, and Nanded have been clamoring for a dedicated water treatment facility, and it looks like their voices have been heard. The proposed water treatment plant will have a capacity to treat a whopping 100 million liters per day (MLD) and is expected to be up and running in no time.

In the meantime, PMC has taken some short-term measures to ensure water safety, including installing chlorination units at key wells in Barangani Mala and Nanded for proper disinfection before distribution. Additionally, there are talks of supplying treated water from the Wadgaon treatment plant to Dhayari through a newly laid pipeline, although this plan may face some technical challenges.

Overall, it’s great to see PMC taking proactive steps to address water quality issues and ensure the health and safety of Pune residents. Let’s hope these initiatives lead to a significant improvement in the water supply in the Sinhagad Road areas.
