Hey Pune residents, get ready for a new level of convenience! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is all set to introduce seven swanky VIP toilets at key entry points to the city. These modern facilities will be air-conditioned and available on a ‘pay and use’ basis, making life a little easier for everyone passing through.
This move comes after Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar raised the issue of the lack of proper toilet facilities in the city. Sandeep Kadam, Head of the Solid Waste Management Department, shared that these VIP toilets will be strategically located at places like Katraj Chowk, Chandni Chowk, Baner, Wagholi, Shewalewadi, near Pune Airport, and near Pune Railway Station.
What can you expect from these VIP toilets? Well, get ready for a luxurious experience with modern bathrooms, separate facilities for men, women, and transgender individuals, air conditioning, and even mobile and laptop charging points. The toilets will also be equipped with Wi-Fi and accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
To ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance, caretakers and sanitation workers will be on duty at each facility. The cost of constructing one VIP toilet is estimated at ₹50 lakh, and the PMC is open to proposals from interested parties for construction and maintenance. One interesting proposal includes granting advertising rights to the contractors as a way of generating revenue for the upkeep of these facilities.
Sandeep Kadam emphasized that this initiative is all about providing world-class amenities to passengers while promoting inclusivity and convenience. So, next time nature calls while you’re out and about in Pune, you can rest assured that a VIP toilet is never too far away!
