In a shocking turn of events, residents of Nyati Elysia society in Kharadi recently discovered that the water supplied to their homes was contaminated with untreated water from a sewage treatment plant. This revelation has led to a health crisis in the area, with an alarming 80% of residents falling ill with symptoms like diarrhea, stomach infections, and fever.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a strong stance against the responsible tanker vendor, vowing to take stringent action. Nandkishore Jagtap, Head of the PMC Water Supply Department, stated that they are collecting evidence and will file a formal complaint against the tanker driver. If the supplier is registered with the PMC, their registration will be revoked immediately.
The controversy escalated when the private tanker vendor admitted to the malpractice during a Zoom meeting with residents and the builder. Despite this admission, the vendor continued operations, leading to residents terminating his contract. The vendor even went as far as obstructing the water entry point with tankers, prompting residents to seek police intervention.
PMC officials have visited the society and assured residents that action will be taken. While residents appreciate the proactive approach, they are urging for faster implementation of promised measures and a broader investigation into other housing societies in Kharadi to ensure similar issues are not occurring elsewhere.
The health and safety of residents should always be a top priority, and it is crucial that swift action is taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
