Hey there, Pune folks! With the monsoon season in full swing, it’s important to stay vigilant about the potential spread of waterborne diseases through drinking water. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) health department is urging residents to take some simple precautions to stay safe and healthy during this rainy season.

Here are some handy tips to keep in mind:

1. Stick to pure water for drinking to avoid any contamination.
2. Avoid using water from unused wells for drinking purposes.
3. Steer clear of consuming open or stale food.
4. Boil and cool your drinking water before consuming it, and always keep it covered.
5. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly with soap after using the toilet and before eating.
6. If you experience symptoms like diarrhoea, loose stools, chills, or fever, seek medical help promptly.
7. Use Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) for dehydration caused by diarrhoea.
8. Say no to open defecation and use toilets only.
9. If you notice any signs of fever, diarrhoea, or jaundice, add chlorine liquid to your drinking water before drinking.
10. Make sure to clean both underground and above-ground water tanks in your buildings. Fix any tap or valve leakages and keep the area around the tanks clean.
11. Keep stored water covered and avoid storing it for more than five days.
12. Dedicate one day per week to dry out drinking water containers to prevent mosquito larvae growth.
13. In case of an epidemic outbreak, don’t hesitate to reach out to PMC Health clinics for assistance.

Let’s all do our part to stay healthy and safe this monsoon season. Remember, prevention is always better than cure! Stay safe, Pune!
