PMC’s Enhanced Solid Waste Management Plan for Pune’s Palkhi Processions: A Detailed Overview With Help of 600 Dedicated Workers and Special Facilities for Women

2. The PMC is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring a hygienic experience for all as they prepare for the arrival and departure of the Palkhis. With plans outlined by the Solid Waste Management Department, cleanliness is at the top of the agenda.
3. Across all 15 ward offices, meticulous sanitation efforts are being strategized to keep the city spick and span during the Palkhi processions. Public roads will be swept, trouble spots cleaned, and waste promptly disposed of to maintain hygiene standards.
4. A dedicated workforce of 600 sanitation workers, including 350 men and 250 women, will be deployed to support these efforts. Additionally, 60 temporary workers have been appointed from the ward offices to assist with cleaning duties during the event.
5. To ensure efficient cleaning operations, seven jetting machines will be utilized to clean all public and portable toilets thoroughly. With sanitation activities conducted three times daily, attendees can expect a clean and comfortable experience.
6. In anticipation of the increased footfall, PMC will be deploying approximately 1,690 portable and mobile toilets across various locations as per the requirements identified by the ward offices. These facilities will be cleaned three times daily to maintain hygiene levels.
7. Special facilities for women have also been arranged, with separate toilets provided in municipal and private schools. Female sanitation workers will have access to these facilities, along with the distribution of sanitary napkins to support their hygiene needs during the event.
8. Essential supplies have been allocated by PMC’s Solid Waste Management Department, including Germiclean, carbolic powder, and herbal waste street powder distributed across all ward offices. Adequate hardware materials have also been provided to ensure smooth execution of sanitation activities citywide.
