In a recent move, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has cracked down on unauthorized bars, restaurants, and rooftop hotels in Hinjawadi. The operation, which took place on Thursday morning, targeted 10 establishments operating without proper authorization. The anti-encroachment team of the PMRDA led the effort, demolishing about 97,815 square feet of unauthorized construction during the raid.

The action was taken due to the lack of response from the district collector’s office, prompting the PMRDA to take matters into their own hands. Despite previous challenges, the recent appointment of an officer in the anti-encroachment department allowed for this crackdown to take place promptly after the conclusion of the election process.

The raid focused on establishments encroaching on public spaces, particularly in areas like Laxmi Chowk in Hinjawadi. Unauthorized bars, rooftop hotels, and restaurants were identified and evicted from the premises. Heavy machinery such as Poclain and JCBs were used during the demolition operation, which lasted throughout the day.

Officials from the PMRDA’s Anti-Unauthorized Construction Department stressed the importance of following regulations and avoiding unauthorized construction activities. Similar enforcement actions are expected to be carried out in other areas in the future.

The establishments that faced action during the raid included Happy Da Punjab, Hashash Café Bar, Rio Kitchen & Bar, Favera Gastro Bar, Marine Drive Sky Bar, Hotel FML, Billionaire Resto Bar, The Community Table, Agent Jacks, and De Hems. This crackdown highlights the authorities’ dedication to maintaining order in urban areas like Hinjawadi.
