The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced an extension for the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Pune Metro Line-3 project, with the new completion deadline set for September 2025. This extension will give contractors Tata and Siemens more time to finish the 23 km elevated metro rail connecting the Hinjewadi IT hub to Shivajinagar.
PMRDA Commissioner, Yogesh Mhase, confirmed that the contractor’s request for an extension was approved, and work has been progressing rapidly since then. Recent discussions with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have also seen significant advancements in the project.
Key developments include the clearance of Raj Bhavan land for metro station construction and the initiation of the Modern College land handover process. PMC officials are also working on creating amenity spaces near the metro stations to cater to parking needs.
Construction progress stands at 82% completion, with significant milestones such as duct installation and railway track laying already achieved. The finishing touches are now being put on escalators, traffic signals, electrical systems, and minor repairs at the 23 stations along the route.
The project faced delays last year due to issues with land acquisition, permits, and tenders, which led to warnings of fines. However, the contractor has since stepped up efforts, especially at critical stations like Baner, Sakalnagar, and Civil Court.
The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Pune Metro Line-3 project is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures. Construction began in November 2021, with the first metro pillar erected in April 2022.
This metro project is crucial for enhancing public transportation in Pune and supporting its growing infrastructure needs. With the extended deadline and ongoing progress, the city’s transportation landscape is set to be transformed by the completion of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Pune Metro Line-3. Stay tuned for further updates as the project reaches key milestones and receives additional approvals.
