Pune is taking a step towards stronger tree conservation efforts with the introduction of new regulations by the PMRDA. Developers in the region are now required to obtain approval from the Tree Authority Committee before they can receive completion certificates for their construction projects. This move, led by PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, highlights the importance of preserving green spaces within the jurisdiction.

Under the new rules, developers must obtain a completion certificate from the Tree Authority before they can receive a final occupancy letter. The deposit amount for tree conservation has also been reduced, especially for projects in rural areas under the PMRDA’s jurisdiction.

According to the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, developers who fail to meet tree planting requirements will be required to pay a deposit per tree. Once the necessary trees are planted in compliance with guidelines, the Tree Authority will issue a final no-objection certificate. Dr. Yogesh Mhase has stated that the deposit made at the time of plot drawing approval will be refunded after tree inspection and compliance verification.

These new regulations are aimed at enhancing tree conservation practices and ensuring that development projects in Pune align with environmental sustainability goals. With the Tree Authority’s approval now a requirement for completion certificates, developers will need to pay closer attention to their tree planting efforts to avoid penalties and ensure compliance with the law.
