In a significant development, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is set to address decades-old land compensation cases for farmers in Pimpri-Chinchwad. This initiative aims to provide relief to farmers who have been stuck in legal battles for nearly 40 years.
Currently, nine cases have met the necessary documentation requirements and are in the final stages of scrutiny. Once reviewed, compensation will be initiated for these farmers. PMRDA is also actively working on resolving several other cases to expedite the process.
Years ago, the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) acquired land from farmers with a promise of 6.25% compensation in property terms. However, the complex procedures deterred many farmers from claiming their compensation.
To tackle this issue, PMRDA has launched outreach efforts to inform farmers about the compensation process and simplify procedures. The authority has also held multiple meetings to assist farmers in claiming their rightful compensation.
Out of the 32 cases filed with PMRDA, nine applicants have completed all necessary documentation. In other cases, legal heir certificates are required, and PMRDA has urged applicants to obtain these certificates promptly.
A total of 106 farmers are expected to benefit from this initiative, receiving compensation for land acquired between 1972 and 1983. In 2019, a decision was made to allocate 50% of the compensation in land and the other 50% as Floor Space Index (FSI) in areas where land availability was limited.
PMRDA’s proactive measures to simplify the compensation process and engage with affected farmers demonstrate its commitment to providing justice to those whose lands were acquired years ago. This initiative underscores the importance of fair compensation for landowners and aims to build trust between administrative authorities and the farming community.
