Hey Pune folks, have you noticed fewer traffic jams on the highways lately? Well, that’s because the PMRDA is on a mission to clear out all those pesky unauthorized constructions and encroachments along the national and state highways in and around the city.
In just nine days, they’ve demolished nearly 2,000 illegal structures, reclaiming over two lakh square meters of land. Talk about a major cleanup operation!
Working together with the National Highways Authority, Public Works Department, Pune Municipal Corporation, and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, the PMRDA is determined to free up the highways from congestion caused by these unauthorized constructions.
Dr. Yogesh Mhase, the Metropolitan Commissioner of PMRDA, emphasized the importance of this crackdown, stating that encroachments on busy roads have been causing traffic bottlenecks and inconveniencing commuters for far too long.
The focus has been on three major highways: Pune-Nashik Road, Pune-Solapur Road, and Chandni Chowk to Paud Road. With hundreds of encroachments removed and thousands of square meters of land cleared, the roads are looking clearer already.
Some encroachers have even voluntarily removed their illegal structures, realizing that enforcement is inevitable. This operation isn’t just about reclaiming road space, but also about improving traffic conditions for everyone in Pune and its surrounding areas.
Dr. Mhase reassured the public that the drive to make the highways encroachment-free will continue in the days to come. Authorities are urging citizens to cooperate and are warning that strict action will be taken against any further illegal construction along the major highways.
So, next time you’re cruising down the highway, remember to thank the PMRDA for their efforts in making your commute a little bit smoother. Drive safe, Pune!
