Hey Pune folks, exciting news coming your way! The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is all set to revamp the city’s infrastructure with the development of 15 key interchanges along the proposed Ring Road. This initiative aims to tackle the pesky traffic congestion issues in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad by enhancing connectivity and making transportation faster and smoother.
With a whopping estimated expenditure of ₹145 crore, PMRDA is confident that this project will not only decongest traffic but also improve overall mobility in the metropolitan region. The Ring Road will span across nine talukas and connect major highways like Pune-Satara and Pune-Nagar roads, making commuting a breeze for residents.
Out of the 15 interchanges, 12 are already in place, with three new ones set to be constructed. These new interchanges will cover a total road length of 12.10 km, expanding the transport network and making it more efficient.
As part of the plan, three major roads will be developed to streamline traffic flow: the Mutha River Top to Urawade route, the Chandkhed to Kasarsai route, and the Nighoje to Moi route. With a combined estimated cost of ₹144.25 crore, these roads are expected to further improve connectivity in the region.
The Ring Road project is just one piece of the puzzle in PMRDA’s comprehensive transport plan, which also includes expanding metro rail lines, creating new routes and terminals for PMPML, and enhancing railway connectivity to the upcoming Purandar Airport. The entire plan is projected to cost a whopping ₹1.26 lakh crore, showing PMRDA’s commitment to transforming Pune’s transport infrastructure.
Dr. Yogesh Mhase, the Metropolitan Commissioner of PMRDA, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that the 15 interchanges will not only improve connectivity but also reduce congestion in the city. With ₹145 crore already allocated for the project, Pune residents can look forward to a more efficient and well-connected transport network in the near future.
So, Puneites, get ready for smoother commutes and less traffic woes as PMRDA gears up to transform the city’s transport landscape with the Ring Road project!
