The chaos that unfolded at Pune Metro’s PMC Metro Station today was quite unexpected. A group of protesters claiming to be from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar group) stormed onto the metro tracks, bringing services to a standstill for an hour. It all started around 1 PM when these individuals, disguised as regular passengers, suddenly took over the tracks and set up a sit-in protest.

Metro security guards acted quickly and suspended services to ensure the safety of passengers. The situation escalated when one of the protesters even tried to set himself on fire. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sandeep Singh Gill had to intervene and eventually resort to a lathi charge to disperse the demonstrators and clear the tracks.

After detaining all protesters, the Shivajinagar Police registered an FIR against them. Despite the disruption at PMC Metro Station, services on other lines continued without any major hindrances. The Pune Metro administration apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured that services resumed by 2:30 PM.

In a surprising turn of events, Narendra Pavtekar, the man behind the protest, has been expelled from the NCP. The party president, Prashant Sudam Jagtap, made it clear that Pavtekar’s actions were not endorsed by the party and were purely personal. It remains to be seen what further actions will be taken against the protesters involved in today’s incident.
