The political scene in Pune’s Kasba constituency is abuzz with tension and rebellion as both the Mahayuti alliance and the Mahavikas Aghadi face internal turmoil. Dissatisfaction over candidate nominations has once again put the spotlight on this central Pune constituency.
In the BJP camp, Dheeraj Ghate, Pune’s city president, was denied a nomination for the Kasba seat, leading to his public expression of discontent. Ghate had been advocating for a Brahmin candidate to represent the party in this stronghold, but the party leadership chose Hemant Rasane, the former PMC Standing Committee chairman, as its candidate. This decision has reignited the debate over Brahmin representation in Kasba, especially after the BJP’s loss in the previous by-election.
On the other side, the Mahavikas Aghadi is also facing rebellion as the Congress party’s decision to field sitting MLA Ravindra Dhangekar as its candidate has caused internal unrest. Former Congress women’s state president Kamal Vyavahare, who was denied the ticket, has openly rebelled and is reportedly considering contesting the election under the Swarajya Party banner.
With tensions rising in both camps, the Kasba constituency is gearing up for a fierce battle. The Mahavikas Aghadi, currently holding the seat, will be challenged by the BJP and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) candidate Ganesh Bhokare. The upcoming election promises to be a colorful and unpredictable one as both alliances struggle to maintain unity amidst internal dissent.
