Bhosari, a key industrial area in Maharashtra, is currently facing severe electricity issues, with frequent power outages plaguing the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in the region. Industry owners have reported significant problems such as production losses, damaged machinery, financial setbacks, and difficulties in retaining customers.
The problem seems to extend beyond just Bhosari MIDC, with some suggesting that the entire state of Maharashtra is affected. This has led to businesses leaving the state and potential investors hesitating to enter, putting the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) under intense scrutiny.
A recent electricity outage lasting more than three hours in Bhosari MIDC brought the issue into sharper focus. Abhay Bhor, President of Industries Association Maharashtra, highlighted the challenges faced by businesses in MIDC, accusing MSEDCL of inadequate infrastructure and frequent power outages. He called for dedicated support for MIDC from MSEDCL and reinstatement of old installment schemes to help industrialists pay outstanding bills.
Another industry owner in Bhosari MIDC pointed out safety issues such as open feeder pillars, unattended distribution boxes, and low wire heights, leading to accidents and incidents of electrocution. Electricity theft is also a significant problem in the area.
In response to these concerns, an MSEDCL spokesperson mentioned ongoing infrastructure upgrades and proposals for further improvements. Executive Engineer Atul Deokar explained that most of the electricity wiring system in Bhosari MIDC is underground, reducing frequent problems but leading to longer repair times when issues arise. Efforts are being made to secure alternate energy sources to meet MIDC’s electricity demand, and campaigns against electricity theft are being conducted regularly.
The situation in Bhosari highlights the urgent need for reliable electricity supply to support industrial activities and prevent further financial losses and safety hazards. Efforts to address these issues are ongoing, with stakeholders working towards sustainable solutions for the benefit of businesses and workers in the region.
