Hey there, foodies and bargain hunters! If you’re a fan of garlic, cauliflower, cabbage, and drumsticks, then you’re in luck because prices have recently dropped by 10 to 15 percent at the wholesale market in Pune. This is all thanks to a surplus of these veggies flooding in from various parts of Maharashtra and other states.
According to Vilas Bhujbal, a big shot at the Pune Market Yard, a whopping 90 trucks loaded with fruits and vegetables made their way to the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard on Sunday. We’re talking green chilies from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh, cabbage from Karnataka and Gujarat, shallots from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, carrots from Rajasthan, peas, and garlic from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh – you name it, they had it!
But hey, it’s not all good news. Prices of leafy greens like fenugreek, coriander, onion, radish, and spinach have seen a slight hike. On the bright side, the prices of most other fruits and veggies have pretty much stayed the same.
As the mercury rises, so does the demand for watermelon, melon, papaya, and lemon. This spike in demand has led to a price increase of ₹2 to ₹5 per kg for these fruits, and lemon prices have shot up by ₹200 per 15 to 20 kg sack. Meanwhile, fruits like pineapple, orange, grapefruit, pomegranate, and chickpeas are keeping it steady on the pricing front.
And if you’re curious about what rolled into the market on Sunday, here’s a little snippet for you:
– 500 to 600 bags of Satari ginger
– 8 to 10 tempos of okra
– 8,000 to 10,000 boxes of tomatoes
– 3 to 4 tempos of green chilies
– 10 to 12 tempos of capsicum
– 7 to 8 tempos of cucumbers
– 8 to 10 tempos of cabbage
– And the list goes on!
So, if you’re in the mood for some leafy greens, be prepared to shell out anywhere from ₹300 to ₹1,500 per 100 bundles. Coriander and fenugreek seem to be the priciest picks, while chuka (sorrel) and chavlai (amaranth) won’t break the bank.
That’s all the juicy news from the Pune wholesale market for now. Stay tuned for more updates on your favorite veggies and fruits!
