Hey there, Pune peeps! It looks like there’s a big shake-up happening in the world of education in Maharashtra. A recent study has shown that more and more students are opting for private schools over government ones. The enrollment ratio in government schools has actually dropped by 6.5% between 2022 and 2024. That’s a pretty significant decline!

The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2024, published by the Pratham Education Foundation, has brought these findings to light. Despite efforts to boost government school enrollment during the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems like the appeal of private schools is winning out.

Back in 2018, the enrollment rate in government schools was at 61.6%. Thanks to some targeted initiatives, that number actually increased to 67.4% in 2022. But now, in 2024, it’s dropped back down to 60.9%. It seems like students are once again gravitating towards private education.

But don’t worry, Maharashtra is still rocking an overall school enrollment rate of over 99% for kids aged 6 to 14. Even with all the disruptions caused by the pandemic, the total enrollment rate has actually gone up from 99.2% in 2018 to 99.6% in 2022 and has stayed steady through 2024.

So, while the education sector in the state might be going through some changes, it looks like the kids are still getting their learning on. Keep on studying, Pune!
