If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at the Pune Airport Customs Department, wonder no more! From intercepting illegal activities to seizing large amounts of gold and currency, these officials have been keeping busy.
Between 2023 and 2024, a total of 11 cases involving the smuggling of gold and currency were registered. In one impressive feat, officials seized 4.2 kilograms of gold, valued at a whopping Rs 2.63 Crore. And that’s not all – they also confiscated currency amounting to Rs 1.6 crore in three separate cases.
Fast forward to the beginning of 2024, and the department shows no signs of slowing down. From January to May, they recorded 4 more cases, seizing 1,879.28 grams of gold worth Rs 12.2 million. On top of that, $17,500 was confiscated, with one case valued at Rs 14.46 lakhs.
Pune Customs Commissioner Yashodhan Wanage had this to say about their efforts: “We have been continuously taking action at Pune airport to prevent illegal smuggling of gold and currency.” With their dedication and vigilance, it’s clear that these officials are committed to keeping Pune safe from illegal activities.
